And we're launched!

Today's family history efforts consisted of visiting familysearch.org and looking at my fan chart. I got pretty excited about printing out a color chart (in landscape view---the print was waaay too tiny when I first tried it without changing the original settings) and rummaging through my old school binders to find a plastic sheet protector that still looked decent. I spent some time clicking on the people in the chart, looking at different available views, and exploring the features of the site. They've made it so easy to add photos, documents and stories! Photos and stories are such a great way to get to know people, but our family doesn't seem to have any on the site. So I uploaded a photo of myself. It's not a great picture, but hey, it's a picture.

CHALLENGE #1: Family members! Attach a picture of yourself to your record on FamilySearch! It's easy-breezy.

After realizing I still didn't exactly know how to really GET STARTED, I watched a little video that gave some great suggestions: talk to family members! Ask questions! Gather pictures and stories! I can do that. So I called Dad and asked if we could spend some time talking about his mom. He was busy, but said he would really like to tell me about her and have me help write some things down. He suggested we have a long-distance (Pittsburgh-Colorado Springs) Family Home Evening tomorrow so that I can ask questions and we can start recording stories. What a great feeling of excitement and happiness that gave me! I think Grandma Beverly must be happy that I want to get to know her. I'm sure that she knows and loves me. I don't know why I've never really thought of this much before. Perhaps because I've never met her. I'm excited to learn about her.

The other thing I did today was start this blog. I think it'll be helpful to have a place to keep track of my progress, and to share it with my family (YOU!!).
